Winter Break Camp:
More Than A Feeling

early-masters-schedule-picasso-Guernica

Winter Break Camp: More Than A Feeling

Why do we feel as though we are about to get swept up in one of Turner's swirling, howling storms, or feel anger and sadness about war when we study Picasso's haunting masterpiece, Guernica? Why do we feel a sense of loneliness when we look at one of Vincent's landscapes? We'll explore feelings through art in this jam-packed winter session. So whether you're excited about a birthday, have the winter blahs, or just mad at your mom, you can take it out on your canvas...and create a masterpiece in the meantime.

DREAM COLLECTION

DREAM COLLECTION

What’s your dream art collection? We’ll look at works of art you would positively love, love, love to having hanging in your kitchen -rather than on the walls of say, the Louvre, or Musee d'Orsay.

Whether it’s hanging in a church, museum, or private home, we’ll track it down and dig up the details. We’ll learn artists’ techniques while making the stories of the paintings come to life, and then sketch and paint and paint some more. Your brain will explode (hey, in a good way!) with information in this fun and super-charged session. Here’s a winter class must for regular Early Masters and those new to the club.

Mondays 4-6pm March 12, 19, 26 $120

TWEEN FRIDAYS: "BLOOMS"! (Ages 10+)

Georgia’s flowers were very different from Claude’s. And Vincent’s flowers, well, they were in a vase by themselves. Henri’s favorite? The high-style of the anemone of course. We’ll paint fabulous flowers-- as seen through the eyes of some of our greatest painters.

*Note: We’ve added an extra 30 minutes to our Friday sessions!

Gauguin & Polynesia: An Elusive Paradise (FEB 9 - APR 29, 2012)

It’s a landmark show highlighting the relationship between Gauguin’s work and the art and culture of Polynesia. To celebrate, Early Masters is offering two special 4-class sessions on one of the most important artists of the late nineteenth century.
As with last year’s blockbuster Picasso show, our students have been invited back to show their work in the Community Corridor at SAM from Feb to April. Every child will have a chance to show their Gauguin work at SAM.

CIRCUS ART

early-masters-schedule-chagall-circus

CIRCUS ART

Everybody loves a circus -- even our favorite painters! Some of the world’s greatest artists were inspired by the skill and spectacle of the circus. They recreated the excitement and thrills of the daring trapeze acts and outrageous clowns.

Others used the Big Top as a way of expressing emotions and the general mood of the world at that time. In this very special 4-week session, we’ll explore the work of masters including Picasso, Georges Seurat, Marc Chagall, Max Beckmann, Alexander Calder, and Edward Hopper...Whew! They all found something magical and unique in a Circus.
