MARCH / APRIL
BRAND NEW!
WEEKEND AFTERNOON TECHNIQUE CLASSES

We are very excited to present our new Techniques classes beginning March 13! These classes (each 90 minutes long) will focus on very specific techniques in both drawing and painting. Not ONLY will your child get to know incredible artists, but he/she will delve into the techniques that they’ll use over and over. Our own Miss Dorielle (a fabulous artist herself) will be on hand to gently guide your child through all the fine points like optical blending, washes, cross-hatching, and working with a palette knife. As always, we use only high-quality art supplies.

These are very special workshops not to be missed!
Each class is $30.

(1) DRAW LIKE A MASTER!
MARCH 13, 14, MARCH 20, 21

Series of four Drawing Classes $105.
Individual classes $30.

(1-A) Picasso Faces: We’ll learn the different ways to use soft and hard leads, different erasers, and other drawing tools like Chamois and blending stumps. Also, we’ll look into different ways of holding your pencils to get different effects, and blending techniques.
March 13th
1-2:30 pm

(1-B) Van Gogh Landscapes: Using an array of colored markers, we’ll explore the incredible line-making of Van Gogh’s beautiful landscapes. Through “optical blending” our eyes mix all Vincent’s colors together to get an incredible, dazzling sky. In this class, we’ll carefully place our colors on paper so that when we step back, our eyes do all the work. This will involve working with line, value, and color, and as always, composition.
March 14th
1-2:30pm

(1-C) Matisse Faces: Who understood the value of line more than Matisse? His “contour” drawings were so simple that, at the time, people didn’t know what to think! In this class, we’ll tackle the importance of line and shape using Conte crayons and charcoals. Our portraits will be done Henri Matisse fashion, but of course.
March 20th
1-2:30pm

(1-D) Da Vinci’s Inventions (Ink):
Now that we’ve covered line, value, shape, and composition, we can get down to the techniques used by the Master of Old Masters: Leonardo Da Vinci. His careful line work and shading techniques in his drawings of his many ingenious inventions are still admired today for their sophistication and thoughtfulness. Using a water-based ink, we’ll explore washes and cross-hatching and create our own “Codex Leicester” that would make Da Vinci proud.
March 21st
1-2:30pm
(2) PAINT LIKE A MASTER!
APRIL 10, 11 AND APRIL 17, 18

Series of Four Painting Classes $105.
Individual classes $30.

(2-A) Impasto with Vincent:
He didn’t invent the ‘Impasto’ technique, (thick paint applied straight to the canvas) but he is so closely identified with it, he might as well have. We’ll start out painting our own van Gogh masterpiece with a brush, and after we’ve laid down the foundation, we’ll bust out those pallet knives.
April 10th
1-2:30pm

(2-B) Pointillism with Seurat:
This class will focus on the beautiful outdoor scenes that made Georges Seurat a household name. We’ll paint something beautiful and representational by using many small points of paint, frequently stepping back so we can see the whole picture. And while our canvases will be beautiful, they’ll be ‘somewhat’ smaller than “Sunday at La Grand Jatte”...
April 11th
1-2:30pm

(2-C) Watercolors with Georgia:
Here’s a wonderful watercolor 101 class featuring the flowers of Georgia O’Keeffe. There are many methods to water color painting. For an effect like Georgia’s, we’ll need to work with washes, that is, a really soaking wet brush. What fun to see the different color combinations that are created when the colors mix!
April 17th
1-2:30pm

(2-D) Color with Matisse:
Color is a topic that we could spend forever on but well, we only have 90 minutes! So, what better way to way to learn about color than from the “Master of Color”, Henri Matisse! We’ll spend quality time on the color wheel and study cool colors, warm colors, and complimentary colors. We’ll also try out a painting technique Matisse used called “Scumbling” or “Dry Brush” But most of all, we are going to have fun with color, just like the man himself.
April 18th
1-2:30 pm
